What is the Cranmer Abacus?

The Japanese Cranmer abacus is used to perform the 4 basic arithmetic operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

It consists of a rectangular frame with a series of beads that slide along rods or axles. The points divide the abacus into seven classes, making it very useful in teaching mathematics.

This abacus features white and red beads arranged in horizontal rows within a rectangular frame with raised edges that prevent the beads from accidentally rolling away. The Cranmer abacus is essential in mathematics education for blind and low-vision individuals, enabling complex arithmetic operations to be performed tactilely and accurately.
